Universal Atlas Cement Company collection, 1927-1939.

The collection contains fifteen photographs, mostly of crowds and dignitaries at ceremonial events at the Universal Atlas Cement Company Plant in Buffington Harbor near Gary, Indiana. Photographs depict views of the dock, crowds and dignitaries at the opening ceremonies, and safety award dedications. Newspaper clippings document the harbor opening, safety, and a tour of the plant. Five pamphlets concerning industrial safety and technology in the cement industry in Indiana are also part of this collection but have been cataloged separately: ACCIDENT PREVENTION MAGAZINE (pam TP881 .A1); SAFETY TROPHY DEDICATION (pam.q HD9622.U54 U5 1935) SAFETY TROPHY REDEDICATION (pam HD9622.U54 U52 1939); PORTLAND CEMENT AS A BY-PRODUCT (pam TP881.K45 1910); and SYMPOSIUM ON DUST COLLECTION (pam TH7697.C4 P6 1926).
